We will create mixed media paintings as we explore various wax and collage techniques on wooden boards. Learn wax transfer, glazing, intaglio, embedded color, direct color, gold leaf and assembly. This is a project class that will introduce you to new approaches in working with paper, paint, wax and collage.
- 1 board approx. 8x10 (plywood, any scrap lumber and thickness)
- 2 sheets watercolor paper approx. 8x10
- acrylic paints: colors + black and white
- soft gel medium
- matte medium
- a good selection of brushes, I like rounds in sizes 2,6 and 10
- 1-1” chip brush from the hardward store or a 1” flat brush
- collage images from magazines and/or inkjet images to use
- pencil
- scissors
- exacto #11
- interesting paper pieces, colored or patterned
- portfolio, caran d’arche or oil pastels (optional)
- frying pan of wax medium and bristle brush
- heat gun
- oil pastels and oil sticks (portfolio)
- latex gloves
- incising tools (awls & rotary)
- demo supplies (everything they have to bring)
- samples of finished pieces
- sand paper for distressing
- gold transfer
- student packets: tissue images, transfers, walnut lettered paper, xeroxed copies of diagrams, trees, bugs, flowers, reversed images, wrapping paper scraps, color copy faces
Judy Wise is an Oregon artist who has worked as a printmaker and painter for nearly three decades and has kept daily journals of her writing and art since before she was 10 years old. Her work has been featured on greeting cards, published in books and magazines, calendars, educational materials and on tapestries. She is a passionate lover of all things artful and of helping others find joy in the process of self-expression. She believes making art is an innately human trait and that everyone is creative. |
